Sarah's Insights

So... What should I pack?
What are people like?

Layers! The weather in Ireland is very unpredictable, so my advice would be to pack sweaters and shirts that are easy to layer.

A rain jacket or umbrella. This is a necessity as spotty showers pop up all of the time in this neck of the woods!

Less than you think. When in doubt when you are packing, leave it at home. If you end up needing something there are cheap stores everywhere that you can purchase it and save room in your suitcase.

Friendly and helpful. Many people are so willing to give you directions and welcome you to Ireland. They are also very quick to give you recommendations for places to visit and restaurants/pubs to enjoy.

Accented. Though Irish people speak English, they have different accents depending on where they are from in Ireland. It may take a day or two to get used to how they talk, but if you listen closely they are a breeze to understand.

Straightforward. Though people are very helpful and friendly, small talk is not a huge thing in Ireland. Often if you ask a question they will simply give you an answer and leave it at that.

Is it worth it?

Absolutely! When you study abroad you gain so much more than transfer credits. I learned that I am a much more capable person than I ever thought I was or could be. I was able to fend for myself in a country that I was completely clueless of prior to making the 8 hour flight across the Atlantic. Experiencing a new culture was something that I will never forget and Ireland will always hold a special place in my heart. I made friends that I know I will have for the rest of my life and I am forever grateful for this experience.
